Imported log furniture made with Chinese fir will usually last between 1-3 years before it begins to deteriorate. Chinese fir does not have the integrity of cedar. Whereas, Northern White Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant, and will last between 10-20 years. Left untreated, Northern White Cedar will weather to a silvery grey. If the white creaminess is to your liking, a quality penetrating oil, deck sealer, or water sealer will help preserve that beautiful color you fell in love with.
